100,000 Ladybugs will be released to the gardens at Earth Heart Park, Saturday, April 21
Horizon Health & Wellness (HHW) and Apache Junction Parks and Recreation are hosting the 6th Annual Earth Day Celebration ~ A Festival of Culture and Wellness. The free community event will be held Saturday, April 21st, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at HHW’s EarthHeart Park (EHP), located at 625 N. Plaza Drive in Apache Junction.
This annual event has gained notoriety for the release of thousands of ladybugs into the 24 raised garden beds found in EHP. Frontier Ace Hardware donates the beautiful ladybugs that are released throughout EHP, which is a 4-acre award-winning wellness park maintained by HHW and many community volunteers.
This free family-friendly event will host a variety of youth groups providing live music and dance beginning at 9 a.m. There will also be an inflatable jumping castle and obstacle course, many hands-on activities for youth, including a petting zoo, face painting, piñata breaking and the return of our amazing 12-foot-tall Ladybug Queen, accompanied this year by her lovely butterfly assistant. Paws and Claws will also be at the festival with various dogs and cats looking to be adopted.
There will be vendors focused on health promotion and wellness resources. There will also be numerous vendors selling art and fine crafts. AJ Rocks will be inviting young people to paint ladybugs and whatever moves their creativity on small rocks.
Chef Miguel will be grilling free veggie samples as well as preparing scrumptious fruit cups to encourage healthier eating habits. We will also have on-going demonstrations on how to use everyday herbs that can grow in your garden to spice up your food.
Entertainment begins at 9 a.m. with the “Mariachi Juvenil Mi Tierra,” followed by the Ladybug release at 10 a.m. The United Dance Crew will perform at 11 a.m., followed by the amazing sounds of Porangui.
Breaking numerous ladybug and star piñatas full of goodies will be ongoing. You may also want to bring blankets or chairs and perhaps an umbrella for seating and cover on the grass area near the entertainment stage.
The hosts want to thank this year’s premier sponsor Health Net/ Cenpatico Integrated Care and our other generous sponsors for their continued support: The Apache Junction / Gold Canyon News, Frontier Ace Hardware, Bonnie Plants, Genoa Healthcare, Superstition Arts and Cultural Alliance, Apache Junction Wellness Partnership, Today’s Comedy, Oldies 93.3 and the Youth Empowerment Partners.
